Miniature Painting

One of the main services we provide here at Foxhole Design is painting miniatures. Whether they are fantasy, modern or sci-fi, 25mm, 15mm or epic scale, we can paint them all. Just to ask for a quote..

After we agree on a price with you, you ship us your figures, we paint them and then ship them back to you after we receive payment.

Two Different Quality Levels of Painting

We have different quality levels of painting. To keep things simple, we limit it to two different levels:

The first level is standard quality. This is the typical quality that we will paint to. It is the standard for tabletop gaming. The figures will look good and work well for gaming. (Several miniatures that have been painted to this standard have in fact won painting competitions.) This is the normal level of painting for armies. It involves some dry-brushing and a simple wash to bring out details. The base will be flocked with static grass or a similar substance. The final product will be coated with a matte varnish to protect it from damage.

The second level is display quality. This is a higher quality paint job that generally means the miniatures are of high enough quality to proudly display. The figures are still durable enough for gaming, but each figure is more detailed. There is more dry-brushing and highlighting of surfaces. More details are picked out and various washes are used to bring out even more detail. The base will be flocked with a couple of different types of ground cover such as static grass, sand, etc. The final product will be coated with a matte varnish to protect it from damage. Display quality is generally priced 50% higher than standard quality.

Pricing Details

In general, A good rough estimate for the price of a standard paint job on a miniature is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the miniature. In other words, if a figure is normally priced at $10, it should be a good estimate that the painting will be $10 as well. Of course, there are exceptions to this.

Miniatures that are highly detailed may be priced higher, but we will agree upon the actual price before the order is finalized. Miniatures that are to be painted in fewer colours or have fewer details may end up being priced lower.

As an example, an incredibly detailed Space Marine Chapter Master may end up being priced a little higher. On the other hand, a world war two vehicle that needs only a coat of khaki and very few details aside from some dirt may end up being priced a lot lower.

Prices include cleaning (i.e. removing flash, etc.), assembly (within reason), and priming, as well as the painting mentioned above.

Final price will be determined based on the particulars of the figure, the particulars of the paint scheme you want to see, and the level of detail and will be agreed upon by both parties before painting begins.

The minimum order for painting is $40 CDN before shipping and handling.

Large orders may be eligible to receive a discount. This will be agreed upon before the order is finalized.

A note about shipping and handling:

Shipping and handling will be calculated once the order has been detailed and discussed. The order will not be finalized until the final price (including shipping and handling) has been agreed upon.

The client is responsible for the shipping costs to get the items to be painted to Foxhole Design and will also be responsible for the shipping costs to get the items back to the client. Insurance is recommended and will be the responsibility of the client. Foxhole Design will not be held responsible for any items that are lost in shipping, so insurance is highly recommended. A tracking number will be provided so that you can keep track of your package once it’s in the mail. Packages absolutely will not be shipped without end-to-end package tracking.

The standard method of shipping will be through Canada Post (and the United States Postal Service, if applicable), but if the client wishes the shipping may be done through FedEx or another courier service of their choice. This is a more secure way of shipping, but will also increase the cost.

It is difficult to determine in advance how much shipping will be, so, unfortunately, it isn’t until after the details of the order have been discussed that it will be possible to estimate the shipping costs. However, we are located in Kingston, Ontario, so if you live anywhere nearby, we can arrange to meet in person both before and after to avoid the shipping costs entirely.

The purchaser is responsible for any handling charges, customs brokerage fees, customs charges, duties, or any appropriate federal, provincial, or state taxes.
